Ricardo Íscar | Masterclass | 2017
Educated in Law and Film, Ricardo works as a filmmaker, DOP and lecturer. He’s directed a long list of award-winning documentaries that stand out for their interest in human relations and ethnographic content. His films have been selected in competition at festivals such as the Berlinale, IFFR, BAFICI and the Vienale. His short doc The Fence (El Cerco) has been awarded the Best European Short Film at the Berlinale, won the Special Jury award at the Málaga Film Festival and was the winner at Documenta Madrid (Spain).
Ricardo has also sat as a jury member at many festivals, such as the Málaga Film Festival and “Visions du Réel” Festival International de Cinéma Nyon. He teaches Creative Documentary at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain).
In this Masterclass, Íscar tells us about his filmmaking techniques such as how a fixed shot can be a form of narration. He uses many clips of his own work to illustrate the discussion, and gives a sneak peak.
