Peter Liechti | Masterclass | 2010
Award-winning Swiss filmmaker Peter Liechti talks about his film The Sound of Insects – Record of a Mummy (2009) which won the Prix ARTE European Documentary Film Award and has been lauded by both critics and audiences. Inspired by a true event and the novella Until I Am a Mummy by Shimada Masahiko, the film is a hypnotic, mesmerising, affirmation of life from one man’s radical renunciation of it.
In this masterclass Liechti discusses creative freedom, and the balance between picture and sound, reality and dream. He gives an insight into the different levels of film and emphasises the importance of research.
